Race-by-race preview and tips for Wednesday meeting at Warwick Farm

Selections based on a soft track.

Race 1

8. Swordplay is back after being scratched at the barriers last week, and all things being equal she has to be hard to beat. Her two trials have been strong wins, showing speed, and she’s put good margins on them. She should be hard to catch on her home track. 1. Penpel has the race experience from a solid second behind Agarwood at this track a month ago. Scratched from the heavy last week and strikes a bit better going here. Expect she’ll hold her form and be in the finish somewhere. 4. Majestic Legend trialled a couple of times in January before a break, and both trials in May were pretty handy. In good hands and any support for her would be significant.

Race 2

5. Frosty Girl is on debut and, considering her first trial was at 1045m, she was sharp in scoring a nice win in a 783m trial at Warwick Farm a few weeks ago. Still a little green in that trial, so open to plenty of improvement and has to be respected. 3. Cinsault has been placed in all five starts to date and not seen since running second on a heavy track at Canterbury in July, six lengths off Extremely Hardys. Both trials sound with the latest a second to Weeping Woman. Likely runs well again. 2. Catonahotinroof has been freshened up with a trial win since a fair effort at Canberra a month ago. Has an each-way chance.

Race 3

9. Central Coast is a well-bred colt, a $1.4m buy out of Sunlight, on debut, and he’s found a winnable maiden to kick off. Showed improvement into his second trial where he closed nicely into second at Rosehill last week, draws one and every chance to show something. 1. Dyami hasn’t raced since a debut second to Mogul Monarch at Hawkesbury in August. Easy trial winner last week at Rosehill and looks a major player. 3. Celerity was placed behind Enriched when resuming here back in August, then placed again at Hawkesbury before another break. Won both trials this time around and is one of the chances.

Race 4

5. Sounds Unusual looks ready to win after seconds in both runs back over the mile at this track. Favourite last time, but likely bumped into a superior heavy tracker there. Close to peak now, and soft range suits. Entitled to go close. 8. Canara caught the eye two runs back when placed at Kensington, but a shade disappointing at Canterbury last week. Blinkers go on again, and while just one win from 17 starts, she’s entitled to another chance. 3. Piraeus scored an overdue win at Eagle Farm a month ago, then never in it when midfield at Doomben. Gets back and runs on, and can’t be left out of the hopes.
