AFL goal-kicking great Warwick Capper has been whacked with a five-year ban from attending league games over his alleged inappropriate behaviour in an MCG corporate suite at last year’s grand final.

The high-flying former Sydney Swans and Brisbane Lions star attended the showpiece season-ending AFL match, a showdown between his two former clubs.

Capper’s lengthy ban was widely reported on Tuesday, amid allegations the 62-year-old was heavily intoxicated and used derogatory language towards MCG staff.

The AFL confirmed on Tuesday night that 124-gamer Capper was issued with a “banning notice”.

Capper’s manager Tony Marks told News Corp that a five-year ban “stinks” and the majority of people in the suite would have known Capper “was being the joking Warwick Capper, an entertainer”.

“We’ve known about that outcome for a while and somehow eight months to the day it’s in the press,” Marks said.

“No doubt there’s a few inappropriate things said in the caricature that is Warwick Capper and playing the class clown.”

“He knows he needs to pull his socks up with some of his jokes, but under no circumstances would he want anyone to be offended. He was making a joke, and it was overheard and offence was taken.”
