Axed NRL star won’t give up on comeback dream

“I’m still only 27 years old, so I’m in my prime now. I did a lot in the game when I was a teenager, and I wasn’t even 90 kilograms – I made a mark, won a comp and played in some really good teams.

“Back then, my life was in absolute tatters. I’ve got stability around me now, I’ve matured a lot, so I would never close the door on it.”

Scott will clash with Ricky Brown on September 21 at the Logan Metro Sports and Events Centre in what will be the production debut of former Australian boxing champion and Dragons NRL star Anthony Mundine.

After claiming a 4-0 boxing record, Scott admitted to struggles in finding new opponents, before pursuing Mundine’s initiative in his next bid to evolve as a person.

“The mindset is different, you’re going to have to put yourself in a killer mindset,” Scott said.

“I can flick the switch and turn quickly to get in the right mindset to do what it takes to win. I’m a real competitor, I’ve pushed myself to whatever boundaries I’ve had to push myself through to win.”

While Scott said some things reported about him in his troubled past were not true, he would not be drawn into what they were, insisting “it’s all done now”.

“I use it as motivation. I got myself out of bed and continued to work hard on myself,” Scott said.

“I’m not saying I’m perfect, I definitely have made mistakes in my life, but I haven’t let them define me.

“I’ve worked hard on areas where I needed to work on, and haven’t given up on myself, which I could’ve easily done over and over again. I’ll continue working hard and being the best person I can.”
