M-CHS betters their 2024 win total with sweep of local rival
CORTEZ – With each passing week, the Panthers’ ambition continues to grow.
With a win over Mancos on Tuesday night in The Jungle, second-year head coach Danielle Waltman and her Panthers have eclipsed their 2024 win total and appear to be on their way to the program’s first postseason appearance since 2021.
M-CHS (8-5, 1-1 3A IML) swept past Mancos, 25-17, 25-18, 25-13, on the strength of the same gritty mindset that helped them collect their second league win in four years. The Panthers followed Saturday’s 3-1 win over Pagosa Springs with another home victory.

Mancos (5-7, 2-2 2A/1A SJBL) remains in the top 36 in the 2A CHSAA Seeding and Selection Index with a strong strength of schedule, as its senior leaders look to develop the upcoming wave of Bluejays.
M-CHS returns to the court with a road match at Cedaredge on Saturday, Sept. 20, before a big back-to-back weekend against league-leading Alamosa and Centauri on Sept. 26-27. Mancos returns home to face Nucla in a key SJBL battle on Saturday before taking on Dove Creek for the second time this season on Sept. 23.
