Four boys and six girls land all-state selections after exciting winter hoops season
DENVER – After a season filled with notable achievements, Southwest Colorado players earned recognition from the state’s coaches through the all-state selections.
Montezuma-Cortez led Four Corners schools with four honorees across its boys and girls teams, while Mancos, Dolores and Dove Creek each landed two selections.
Montezuma-Cortez junior Trey Hall was named to the Class 4A first team after leading the Panthers to a 25-1 season and a trip to Denver for the state tournament quarterfinals. Hall eclipsed 1,000 career points as the Panthers captured their first league title as members of the Intermountain League by going undefeated in the regular season, the program’s first league championship since 2003.
Senior Trace Hartsoe and sophomore Ah-dae Lang earned honorable mention, joining Hall in receiving their first CHSAA all-state recognition in basketball. Lang and Hartsoe finished second and third on the team in scoring behind Hall.
On the girls side, Montezuma-Cortez sophomore Kyndall Schmitt earned her first all-state basketball honor after helping guide the Panthers to an 11-win season and a third consecutive postseason berth. Schmitt led the team in scoring, assists and steals.
At Dove Creek, the Bulldogs’ ninth straight winning season featured the leadership and scoring of seniors Taylor Hampton and Hadley Hatfield, who both earned all-state recognition following a 14-win campaign. Hampton closed her career with more than 1,000 points, while Hatfield led the team in assists, many of them setting up Hampton.
The Mancos girls tied Dove Creek for a top-two finish in the San Juan Basin League and qualified for the Class 2A postseason for the fifth time in six years. The Bluejays were led by honorable mention selections senior Caylee Moore and sophomore Tinsley Aspromonte. Aspromonte led the team in scoring, while Moore paced Mancos in steals and rebounds during a 10-win season.
Both Dolores basketball programs enjoyed some of their best success in more than a decade, with each team earning an honorable mention selection. Junior Koby McClellan led the 13-win Bears in scoring, steals and assists as Dolores posted its highest win total since 2013 and earned its first playoff berth in seven years. Dolores senior Taylor Erautt finished her career as the team’s leading scorer and helped the Bears record their first double-digit win season since 2018.
Head coaches from across Colorado voted on nominees submitted by schools in the state’s six classifications. First-team, second-team and honorable mention designations were determined by vote totals.
