Adelaide Crows star set to be investigated for inappropriate remark towards opponent

The AFL is set to investigate an alleged slur directed by Adelaide star Izak Rankine towards his Collingwood opponent during Saturday night’s match at Adelaide Oval.

The star Crow facing the allegation is a key component in the club’s push for their first premiership since 1998 after they qualified for a home qualifying final with a three-point win over the Magpies that guaranteed them a top two spot.

Two senior competition sources confirmed the investigation was likely but the AFL and the clubs were not making any comment on Sunday night as to which player was facing the allegation.

The Age is not suggesting a slur was made however an investigation into the allegation will take place.

The outcome could have huge implications for the Crows’ premiership hopes as there is just one match remaining until finals. A suspension of four matches or more if he was found guilty of an offence could see him miss a grand final if the Crows won through to the decider via qualifying and preliminary final wins.

Players have received significant suspensions for offensive slurs with the Eagles’ Jack Graham suspended for four matches this season after he admitted he used a homophobic slur during a match against the Giants this season.
