That was as animated as I’ve seen Alex de Minaur as he spoke to Jim Courier after his four-set win over Francisco Cerundolo this afternoon.
After injury ruined the second half of 2024 for de Minaur, he says he is back to best physically and it can be a difference-maker for him as he chases the Australian Open title.

The Aussie was asked what he meant when he was slapping his legs after he came up with a crucial break point in the fourth set.
“The legs are back,” de Minaur said.
“That never say die attitude. It got me the break in the last set, I had the crowd on my side.
“I’m going to have a couple of bruises on my quads but it was worth it.
“It was tough last year with the injury, getting through it, coming back on court. It’s been a long six months but jeez it feels good that I have my legs back.”
De Minaur thanked the crowd at Rod Laver Arena for again inspiring him through a difficult and exhausting match.
He can’t wait to face rising US star Alex Michelsen in the fourth round.
“He’s been playing some amazing tennis, he’s a kid playing with a lot of confidence,” de Minaur said.
“It will be a battle but I love these battles. I can’t wait.”
