Boulter believes much of the abuse comes from gamblers who have lost money and de Minaur, speaking after his surprise 6-4, 6-2 defeat to world No.30 Jiri Lehecka at Queen’s, agreed.
“When you lose, you’re feeling not in the best state emotionally, but then you’ve also got to deal with everything that happens behind the scenes with angry gamblers,” he said.
“I haven’t gone on my social media yet, but I’m sure I’ll have a lot of people not too happy with my result today.
“Every single tennis player on the tour gets thousands, millions of messages every time they lose a match or they cost someone money betting on them. So it’s something that you’ve gotten used to.
“I would love for it to be dealt with or fixed somehow, but I’m not too sure what’s the answer.”
The WTA and International Tennis Federation on Tuesday published their first report into online abuse of players after the launch of the Threat Matrix service last January.
The report reveals 1.6 million posts and comments were analysed, with around 8000 directed at 458 players identified as abusive, violent or threatening.
Five players received 26 per cent of the total abuse, while 40 per cent of the messages were identified as coming from angry gamblers.
Fifteen accounts have been identified to law enforcement because of the serious and prolific nature of the messages, while details have been shared with security teams at tennis events to prevent individuals accessing venues.
De Minaur crashed out at the first hurdle in a serious blow for the Australian No.1 with Wimbledon looming.

De Minaur was broken in the opening game, and never managed to break back in the first set as Lehecka served up to 226km/h. He was unable to break in the second set either, dropping serve himself at 1-1, in part due to an unlucky net cord, and 2-4.
“There’s not too many positives I can take out of today. Just not a good day at the office – I wasn’t up for the level,” said de Minaur.
But there was a much better outing for Alexei Popyrin who beat compatriot Aleksandar Vukic 6-2, 6-7 (9-11), 7-6 (7-3).
There was also a shock main court appearance for Adam Walton, who was called up to face world No.2 Carlos Alcaraz as a lucky loser.

Walton, ranked 86, lost 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) but acquitted himself well. Alcaraz, the 2023 Queen’s winner who will soon be bidding for a third successive Wimbledon title, was unable to break Walton in the second set and needed the tie-breaker to take the set, and match.
Jordan Thompson was forced to retire when playing Jaume Munar.
Nick Kyrgios has been tempted by the controversial new format of the US Open mixed doubles into signing up for the event in a blockbuster pairing with two-time US Open women’s singles winner Naomi Osaka.
Naomi Osaka and Nick Kyrgios will team up for mixed doubles at the US Open.
Kyrgios has been tormented by a succession of injuries in the last 2½ years and only played six singles and three doubles matches since the start of 2023, winning one of each.
Only two of the 20 top-10 male and female players have to date declined to put their names forward in a victory for the organisers’ rebrand, the creation of which drew condemnation from regular doubles players including Australia’s Ellen Perez.
Men’s No.1 Jannik Sinner has paired with American women’s world No.9 Emma Navarro and men’s No.2 Alcaraz with former US Open winner Emma Raducanu. Women’s No.1 Aryna Sabalenka has linked up with men’s No.19 Grigor Dimitrov.
Sixteen teams have signed up, with the top eight with the best combined singles ranking guaranteed a place along with eight wildcard entries. Most matches will be best-of-three sets played to four games instead of six, with a deciding point played at deuce. Tie-breakers would be at 4-4, while a first-to-10-points match tiebreaker would replace a third set.
Kyrgios and Osaka would need a wildcard, being ranked 633rd and 57th respectively, but given the revamp is aimed at attracting more fans, viewers and sponsors there is little doubt such a high-profile duo would get one.
