Chris Martin, lead singer of Coldplay, has jokingly warned fans that they might find themselves on the big screen during shows, after he accidentally exposed an alleged office romance between former Astronomer CEO Andy Byron and his colleague Kristin Cabot.
The internet went into overdrive on Friday after a video went viral showing Mr Byron and Ms Cabot cuddling as the kiss cam focused on them during the rock band’s gig in Massachusetts.
When the camera landed on the couple in the packed 65,000-seat stadium, they appeared visibly shocked and quickly moved out of frame, prompting the band’s frontman to wonder aloud if they were having an affair.
“Oh look at these two. Come on, you’re okay. Oh, what? Either they’re having an affair or they’re very shy,” Martin said.
The band has since returned to the stage to continue their Music of the Spheres World Tour, as Martin warned fans they could appear on the jumbotron.
“We’d like to say hello to some of you in the crowd and put some of you on the big screen. How we’re going to do that is we’re going to use our cameras and put some of you on the big screen.”
“Please, if you haven’t done your makeup, do your makeup now!”
Although Martin joked with the crowd, he did not directly address the kiss-cam incident during his message.
Following the video’s viral spread and the resulting meme storm, Astronomer announced Mr Byron had resigned.
“As stated previously, Astronomer is committed to the values and culture that have guided us since our founding. Our leaders are expected to set the standard in both conduct and accountability, and recently, that standard was not met. Andy Byron has tendered his resignation, and the Board of Directors has accepted,” the company said in a statement.
“The Board will begin a search for our next Chief Executive as Cofounder and Chief Product Officer Pete DeJoy continues to serve as interim CEO. Before this week, we were known as a pioneer in the DataOps space, helping data teams power everything from modern analytics to production AI.
“While awareness of our company may have changed overnight, our product and our work for our customers have not. We’re continuing to do what we do best: helping our customers with their toughest data and AI problems.”
