Lighthouse Lass is set to light up Scone on debut

Trainer Cassandra Stummer is confident two-year old filly Lighthouse Lass can put her best foot forward when she makes her racing debut in the Select Events 2YO Handicap (900m) at Scone on Thursday.

Owned by John Ramsey, Stummer was entrusted with the Capitalist filly, which hasn’t been straightforward, but she has shown the stable good improvement between her three barrier trials.

“John Ramsey owns her and we do a fair bit of work for John – we nearly take all his babies through and educate them,” Stummer said.

“She is quite a big horse; she is very leggy and has improved a lot between preparations.”

The daughter of Capitalist showed the Stummer stable good potential in her first preparation, which resulted in her being entered for the Gimcrack Stakes (1000m) at Randwick where she unfortunately was an emergency and didn’t get a run.

“She actually went shin sore last prep,” Stummer said. “We had a bit of an opinion of her. We had her nominated for the Gimcrack and she didn’t get a run, she was an emergency. So we tipped her out and it has probably helped her develop.”

Lighthouse Lass will jump from barrier four in the first race at Scone and Stummer expects the filly to show good speed over the 900m, which will be important for her chances.

“If you’ve watched her replays, she can get towing a bit,” she said. “I’m sure with it being a 900m race there will be a fair bit of speed on which will help her [settle].
