Potter has high hopes for promising trio at Moruya

Canberra trainer Rob Potter will make the trek to Moruya on Sunday where he has a trio of leading contenders engaged to start.

Potter, who had Craving Magic run eighth in last weekend’s SERA Country Championships at Nowra, will send around a couple of first starters at Moruya with Malinga Missile lining up in the Rixons Buses Maiden Handicap (1010m) with Jack Martin to ride, and Prizuga contesting the Pretty View Retreat Country Boosted Maiden Handicap (1425m) with Brodie Loy in the saddle.

Potter’s other runner will be the Martin-ridden Wrong Footed in the Mal Gilham Building And Design Maiden Plate (1200m).

Malinga Missile is a four-year-old gelding by Smart Missile and Potter has given the galloper one trial to prepare for his debut. He finished second in that hit-out at Queanbeyan behind Twin Telepathy.

Prizuga is a three-year-old gelding by Prized Icon, and he was also given a barrier trial at Queanbeyan in which he scored a three-quarter length victory.

Wrong Footed will line up in its event having had one race start at the Sapphire Coast last month. The three-year-old son of Sidestep finished sixth when beaten a little more than 4½ lengths.

Jockey Nick Heywood will also be in action at Moruya having ridden at Saturday’s SDRA Country Championships meeting at Wagga.

Heywood has only two mounts at Moruya, but both look to have strong chances. He will partner the Matthew Dale-prepared Puzzle Dragon when it lines up the same event as Wrong Footed.
