Selections based on a soft to heavy track.
6. Ohope drew wide and sat handy before weakening in the group 2 Sires’ at Flemington almost a month ago. Freshened and trialled quietly at Hawkesbury recently. Back in class and looks a good chance. 9. Just A Journey is on debut after a couple of recent trials where she wasn’t asked for a lot over the shorter trips. Bred to love this sort of trip fresh and is one to keep an eye on. 8. I Am Overs debuted with a close third in a small field at Gosford a couple of weeks ago. Likely improver on that and is in the mix. 2. Gaeilge hasn’t yet lived up to early promise but gave a sight when third at Newcastle behind Buffalo after leading.

1. Engine Room looks a promising type, and he comes through a strong maiden from back in October where he split Snitzanova and Brigidine Gal at Kensington. If he handles the ground he will be a major player. 9. She Rex hasn’t done a lot wrong in her three starts for as many placings at the end of last year. Muswellbrook trial winner a couple of weeks ago and is capable of showing up. 7. Manukau was a shade disappointing on debut but improved with a closing second at Hawkesbury last time out. Still on the up and a wet track might be a plus. 3. Now Is The Hour us on the way up and has been right in the market in his two runs back. Extra trip might suit him now.

12. Modella is straight out of maiden company, but she couldn’t have been any more impressive showing a sharp dash to score easily at Kembla back in late January. Placed here on a wet track on debut. 9. California Sunrise hasn’t finished worse than fourth in seven starts and while best is probably at 1400m plus she can run a race fresh. Have to keep her safe. 8. Linwood wasn’t fancied in betting at her only start but swept home to win on a heavy track here back in July. While 1200m likely short of her best this prep she could show up.

5. Dr Evil ran about as well as he could on a dry track coming off a seven-week break at Hawkesbury, running into third. Loves a wet track and around the mile is his sweet spot so he has to be a good each-way chance in an open race. 2. Arqana was a solid favourite at Flemington a month ago and didn’t really make an impact, staying about midfield all the way. Never won on a good track, so the conditions will suit her this time. 7. Imposing Pier looked the winner when he darted through on the inside at Hawkesbury last time only to be nailed on the line. Consistent type who can be around the mark again. 8. Inferencia is in career-best form and is in line for a hat-trick after leading all the way in a Midway at Rosehill. Has a show.
