Samsung’s latest Android tablet beats the iPad at a price that won’t last long

If you want a new, large-screen tablet and want to pay as little as possible for the best specs out there, we’ve spotted an excellent deal on one of the latest Samsung devices. Amazon is currently selling the Galaxy Tab S10 FE+ for £499, a “limited time deal” that cuts a huge £150 off the RRP.

For less than £500, the Galaxy Tab S10 FE+, which has only been out since April, packs in a huge 13.1-inch display, 128GB storage, 8GB RAM, front and rear cameras, 45W fast charging and stereo speakers, making it a top choice for all the things people do with their tablets – namely watching TV and movies and YouTube, browsing the web, sending emails and making video calls.

Its closest iPad rival in terms of specs and screen size is the 13-inch iPad Air, which costs from £799. Even without the discount the Galaxy costs less at £649, so this £499 sale price is rather good in our book. It’s £100 less than the 11-inch iPad Air while offering that big display, which is great for watching stuff on but is also ideal for sketching, drawing and note taking.

Unlike Apple’s iPads, the Galaxy Tab S10 FE+ comes with a Samsung S Pen stylus in the box so you can doodle and write to your heart’s content either using the Samsung Notes app or any number of free third party notetaking or artistic app alternatives that you can download from the Google Play Store.

If you opt for an iPad Air the functionality is much the same, but you’ll be paying more than for the Samsung tablet and also need to fork out for an Apple Pencil stylus for about an extra £100 too.

Express.co.uk technology editor Dave Snelling reviewed the smaller Galaxy Tab S10 FE earlier this year, awarding it four stars and praising its build quality, excellent display and the fact it comes with the S Pen in the box.

“The Galaxy Tab S10 FE is a great example of what else is on the market, and this gadget has loads going for it,” he said. “In fact, in some areas – such as screen, battery life, water resistance and free accessories – it actually beats the iPad hands down.”

That’s right, the Galaxy is actually IP68 dust and water resistant, which means it can survive an accidental dunk in the pool or bath – perfect if you want to binge Netflix in the bath or read e-books by the pool.

You’ll enjoy all that content on the large 13.1-inch display, which has a 90Hz refresh rate, a smoother scrolling tech than you’ll find on the equivalent iPad Air, which is stuck on 60Hz.

We’re not sure how long this limited time offer will last on Amazon, but picking up the Galaxy Tab S10 FE+ at this price is a great deal, especially on a device that has only been on the market for a few months.
