Triple J Hottest 100: International artists and TikTok favourites, dominates Aussie top 100 charts


Triple J’s hottest 100 has taken over Australia again this year with US artists and TikTok favourites finding their way into the top 10.

American artist Chappell Roan took out the number one spot with her song Good Luck, Babe! She was followed by Royal Otis and Billie Eilish.

The young Midwest singer made history gaining the most number of votes in the Hottest 100’s history.

Roan’s song Good Luck Babe! was her only eligible track open for voting making her the first solo female artist to top the charts with a solo entry.

The top 100 was dominated by Billie Eilish and Charli XCX who both smashed the record for most entries in a single hottest 100.

Australian hip hop group Hilltop Hoods were the previous record holders.

The top 10 was taken over by international artists including: Lola Young, Billie Eilish, Gracie Abrams, Charli xcx, Kendrick Lamar, Fred again.. and Baby Keem.

Aussie artists who made the top 10 cut include: Royel Otis, Dom Dolla, and G Flip.

G Flip took 9th place singing a cover version of Cruel Summer originally sung by Taylor Swift.

Triple J previously disqualified Swift’s song Shake It Off in the 2015, however, the popular American singer has found her way back onto the Hottest 100 this year alongside Gracie Abrams.

Swift was featured in Abrams’ song Us which ranked 71st.

Social media sensation Addison Rae just missed out on the top 10 with her song Diet Pepsi taking 11th place.

There were nearly two and a half million votes in total and triple j found 62 per cent of votes were female, 34 per cent were male, two per cent were non-binary, and two per cent did not state.

Triple J and Australian voters are already facing backlash on social media for their choice of music.
