Taylor Swift has broken down in tears in an emotional moment on her boyfriend Travis Kelceās New Heights podcast.
The pop superstar made her podcasting debut on Wednesday night (US time), during a wide-ranging discussion with Kelce and his brother, Jason, that included details of her newest album, The Life of a Showgirl.
During the episode, Swift got particularly emotional when talking about reclaiming her master recordings ā a moment she thought about happening every day.
Swift fought back tears, and Kelce comforted her as she spoke in depth about the years-long saga and when she sent her mum and brother to LA to negotiate with Shamrock Capital, the owners of her music, on her behalf.
She explained how Kelce was playing video games when she found out she had bought the rights back, and the NFL star even started weeping when he was told the news.
āI havenāt gotten my hopes up about this in a decade. A couple of months after the Super Bowl, I was in Kansas City,ā Swift said, adding she had been saving to buy her masters since she was a teenager.
āI get a call from my mum. Sheās like, āYou got your music.ā I very dramatically hit the floor for real. Bawling my eyes out, weeping, like āReally?ā I said to myself āGo tell Travis in a normal wayā.
āHe was playing video games, and he put his headset down. I was like āI got my music back!ā And I was heaving crying. This changed my life.ā
Swiftās masters had been owned by Scooter Braun, forcing her to re-record her first six albums as āTaylorās versionā, before Braun sold them to Shamrock.
Swift said owning her music and the rights to it was very important to her.
āWhat I was looking to do, though, was I wanted to buy my music outright. I donāt want to be in a partnership, I donāt want to own 30 per cent of it. I want to own all of it. But it was a long shot to think they would do that,ā she said.
āIf I never bought back my music, one day someone else will leave all my music to their kids in their will.ā
As soon as the episode dropped, Swift shared the cover art and release date of October 3.
The theme for this album is mint green and orange, and the front cover, designed by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggot, shows Swift immersed in water wearing a bedazzled dress.
Swift teased that TS12 was about what was going on behind the scenes on her mammoth Eras tour that spanned 51 cities across 21 countries.
The cover represented how she ended each night āin a bathtub…I wanted to glamorise different aspects of how the tour felt.ā
Swift revealed she worked on the album in between 149 shows on the Eras tour, causing her to be āexhausted but so mentally stimulatedā.
āHow on earth she did this on tour is still blowing my mind,ā Kelce said.
Swift replied: āI just love it a lot, I love music.ā
āIt just comes from the most infectiously joyful, wild, dramatic place I was in in my life, and that effervescence has come through on this album.ā
The back of the album revealed the 12 tracks, with the last song, the title track, featuring Sabrina Carpenter.
She also shared that she co-produced the album with Max Martin and Shellback who she collaborated on the Red album.
Fans can expect TS12 to sound like Never Getting Back Together, 22, Shake It Off, Style, Wildest Dreams, Ready For It and Delicate.
Kelce said he had listened to all the songs and told fans they should prepare for some ābangers that are upbeat, pop and excitementā.
āThis album is going to make you dance,ā he said.
Elsewhere in the two-hour long podcast, Swift discussed becoming part of the Chiefs kingdom and life after the Eras tour.
Swift admitted she felt āgreatā not being on tour anymore despite missing it.
āIām getting my hobbies back…I sew, paint, cook; my current baking obsession is sourdough,ā she said.
