WA fans waiting more than a decade to see Lady Gaga in concert have been forced to fork out thousands of dollars in ticket and travel costs after it was revealed that the superstar would not perform in Perth.
The pop star announced on Wednesday that she would be bringing her Mayhem Ball tour Down Under in December — but fans are labelling it the “Eastern Australian Tour” as she has skipped on dates in Perth and Adelaide.
Gaga, real name Stefani Germanotta, has not performed in the country since 2014 and she hadn’t planned on touring in 2025 but said after an overwhelmingly positive response to her new album, she decided to jet around the globe.
The tour is set to kick off in Las Vegas on July 16 and Gaga will bring her new music to several cities across the US, UK and Europe before travelling to Australia.
She is set to perform shows in Melbourne on December 5, Brisbane on December 9 and Sydney on December 12.
While those cities were busy celebrating Gaga’s tour announcement, Perth fans were left reeling after not making the cut on her itinerary.
“No Perth, getting tired if these ‘Australian’ tours,” one said on Facebook.
Another commented: “It’s a VIC, NSW and QLD tour, not an Australian tour.
“I don’t understand why she wouldn’t come to Perth, we have some amazing venues that would easily fill several times.”
A third added: “No Perth??? WTAF? I’ve been waiting for years to see Gaga! This is some BS!!
“At least if you live on the Eastern States you can get cheap fares … but to fly from Perth it costs a bloody fortune.”
And a fourth wrote: “*Cries in Perth* I’m so sad she’s not coming here.”
Others described the move as “pure evil” and “absolutely disappointing”, with one fan urging Premier Roger Cook to “step up and start getting big artists to Perth”.
Mr Cook told reporters on Wednesday that Perth has had “amazing concerts” but he also acknowledged it was a “difficult” place for celebrities to travel to.
He denied the State Government’s payments to other bands such as Coldplay had set a precedent on what other performers expected.
“Perth continues to attract global events and that’s one of the reasons why we’re emerging as an event destination for South East Asia and the rest of the world,” Mr Cook said.
“We’ve had amazing concerts put on here. It is a difficult place for people to bump in a concert, they have to bring trucks across the Nullarbor. That has cost but it also has logistical challenges.
“That was the magic of Coldplay, because they are actually on an Asian tour, and I’m sure we’ll continue to attract global events in the future.”
Taxpayers forked out a rumoured $8 million cheque to lure UK rockers Coldplay to Perth for an exclusive 2023 show, which was later trumped by shows in Melbourne and Sydney in 2024.
“One of the things — I’m happy to reveal this now — we were most paranoid about is that Coldplay were working on long-term plans to do an Australian tour, and we did our level best and were successful to make sure that that story didn’t get out before we actually had the Perth concert,” Mr Cook said.
Fans in Adelaide were also upset.
“Please bring Lady Gaga to Adelaide,” one Facebook user said.
Another pleaded: “Can we get an Adelaide show please.”
Minutes after the announcement flooded social media, people reported having issues with accessing the Ticketmaster website.
Fans logging onto the site were greeted with the message: “Your IP address is untrusted. Access to this page has been denied.”
As of 10am, the site seemed to be up and running.
